A breakfast treat!

I love scones and so lately I have been trying to make them in my own kitchen. A friend gave me her recipe for these delicious scones. They are actually very easy and quick to make. You can make them like a pie cut in wedges or use a cookie cutter and make them as circles.

Raisin and Maple Scones

2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/3 cup chilled butter, cut into small pieces
1/2 cup chopped raisins
1/2 cup low fat milk
3 tbsp. maple syrup

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Combine first 5 ingredients in bowl; cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add raisins; toss well. Combine milk and syrup. Add to flour mixture; stirring until just moist.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface, and knead 4 or 5 times. Pat the dough into an 8 inch circle on a baking sheet (baking stone works best). Cut the dough into 12 wedges, cutting into, but not through, dough.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden. Serve warm. Yum!!
