Making Yogurt.

I love making yogurt. My friends and I have learned the secret of making our own yogurt. No more expensive yogurt! No more sweet yogurt [& corn or red bean yogurt either]. No more wasted tiny plastic cups!

You may think, WOW, that's so hard. Or, WOW, you are so cool! Well, its not hard in the least, and takes about 10 minutes. It's actually so easy my friend swears the companies are scamming us.

So how do I do it?

Well, I buy a carton of milk (I use UHT boxed milk usually, but fresh milk is obviously tastier!)

And one container of yogurt (plain). You can also add dry milk powder to make it healthier, but I never have.

Then I heat the milk until almost bubbling (about 185F or 85C). Remove from heat and plop the pot into a sink full of water to cool it down (110F or 43C). Then I pour it into recycled glass containers, equally divide the yogurt (room-temperature). Cambodia is hot and muggy enough, so I just wrap the glass in towels and rubber bands and set outside for about 4-8 hours. Sometimes I will put it up against the warm spot of my fridge (in the case of rain). Once I put it in a warm dryer overnight! And others keep it warm with an incubator or maybe a heating pad, or in a warm tub of water.

After it is yogurt, then I keep it in the fridge to cool it. And enjoy it for breakfast, snack, and even with my dinner. Try it!! :)
